Recapping Our OETC Visit

Lealynd Tuskan and TJ, of the Epiphany team, took on the Ohio Educational Technology Conference (OETC) back in February to check out the latest in education technology. The OETC exhibit hall creates a one-stop shop for all things Ed Tech and with over 250 exhibitors, the Epiphany team had a lot to investigate.

During their time at the OETC, the Epiphany team located their favorite vendors and products and recorded the process to bring the conference home to those who couldn't attend. Of all the vendors and exhibitors at the event, the team selected what they found to be the best and most innovative gadgets and products for the classroom.

First on their list was an interactive, 3-D topographic map made of sand, perfect for simulating all things geography in the classroom. Up next was the Qball, a durable microphone ball that makes class participation fun for even the quietest of students. Next, they took a look at Class Hub, an unparalleled way for teachers to monitor and control their students' devices to keep each student on task. Next on their list was the ViewSonic, an interactive touch board that doesn’t require a projector or PC connection; this large device is perfect for easy and hands-on class participation. The team even liked the ViewSonic so much that we adopted one for our home office!

The team then checked out the Padcaster, a recording device for any and all iPads, great for broadcasting and creating multimedia elements easily in the classroom. Next, the team looked at a dry erase, collaboration table made by Custom Educational Furnishings, perfect for idea sharing in the classroom or the workplace. Next, the team took a look at Google Expedition, a class set of virtual reality goggles with free software to provide a guided, educational and interactive virtual reality experience in the classroom. The team then talked to a representative from the Google Educator Group of Ohio, which is essentially a free, online forum for collaboration amongst teachers in Ohio. And finally, the team got an overview of Symbaloo, a free social bookmarking platform where you can create your own web mix of custom URLs made for easy internet access.

The Ohio Educational Technology Conference is a great place to share the very best in educational technology and connect with decision makers and purchasers. Not only can attendees check out the latest technology at the OETC, but they can also attend educational sessions and workshops, assistive tech labs, panel/roundtable discussions, and presentations from the best keynote speakers in the industry. The Epiphany team is pleased to share the highlights from this year's conference and is ready to start planning for next year!
